In addition to monetary
support of over $100,000 per year, Service League contributes over 2,000
hours per year in volunteer time for area projects. Below are a few:
Service
League members have been directly involved with Encompass
Childcare for the past 50 years. Volunteer opportunities involve
direct interaction with children under age 7 playing games
or working in small groups. Assisting with lunch or special
projects is also an option, as is helping the staff in the
evening care programs at the Rosebush and Cornerstone centers.
Puppets
with Disabilities
Service
League members, in teams of 3, perform skits using puppets
to introduce children in grades 2 - 3 to the challenges of
living with disabilities.
At the
Boys and Girls Club on Oneida or on University Avenue, members
can interact with children grades 1 - 12. Help with homework,
play games or assist with arts and crafts are just a few of
the after school activities available.
Aurora Program – GBPS
Working
with the Green Bay Public Schools, Volunteers are assigned
a teacher to help out during the school year.
Authors & Artists Alive
Service
League adopted this Butterfly Books program in 2002. We have
been able to expand to a 2nd school for 2003. Volunteers work
in the classroom teaching the children about a particular
Author or Artist with the help of a "Kit" of books
by that same Author or Artist
Community Choice
The service
must fulfill Service League's mission - to meet the physical,
educational and emotional needs of the children of Brown County
- and must be approved by the Board. Some examples of current
opportunities include working with the Literacy Council, the
Aurora Program of the Green Bay school system, and Family
Services' Healthy Families program.
We
also offer the following programs to the community
Basic
Necessities
Service
League bargain hunts and then distributes "basic necessities"
which include: socks, underwear, hats, wind pants and mittens
to at-risk children through Encompass, area schools and social
service agencies.
Basics
for Babies
Members
also provide layettes through "Basics for Babies"
to infants born to needy families through social service agencies
and area hospitals.
Service
