Basic Programs
Service League directly impacts the children of our community through our Basic Programs: Basics for Babies, Basic Necessities, and Teens for Independent Living. Each program is carefully designed to serve a specific age group of children and their needs. With Service League's limited budget it is essential that the many needed items to support each program be donated or purchased at the deepest discounts. Each program is run by a one or two volunteer women committee and runs from September through June. These important programs are further defined below.
Basics for Babies
- This project provides necessities to newborns in need. Bellin Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital, Family Services, and Brown County Health Department are all agencies that are served through this project. The Brown Country Health Department and Family Services both see at risk infants in their home environment right after they are discharged from the hospital. The sets are given to the families by caseworkers during visits
- 171 layette sets were delivered in 2009 to include 342 gowns/sleepers, receiving blankets, and onesies, 171 fleece sacks, 171 pairs of socks, and 1710 diapers. Additional items given include girls and boys outfits, sleepers, crib sheets, wash clothes, bibs, teething rings, baby rattles as well as gently used baby items all donated from Service League members
- Each set given through our Basics for Babies includes: one fleece sack, 2 gowns or sleepers, 2 receiving blankets, 2 onesies, one pair of socks, and 10 diapers
Basic Necessities
- This project provides clothing and basic winter wear to school age children at twelve at-risk schools in Green Bay, four Encompass centers, The Golden House and Green Bay Head Start programs.
- Over the last year alone over $1,000 of items have been delivered. Including approximately 70 pair of sweatpants, 25 pair of gloves, 15 hats, 100 packages of socks and underwear.
- Items offered through our Basic Necessities Program include: socks, underwear, sweat pants, jeans, sweatshirts, gloves/hats, and snow pants.
Teens for Independent Living
- Each year, teenagers throughout Brown County turn 18 years of age and no longer qualify for foster family living. Being a teenager and responsible for living on your own is a daunting transition to make - Service League helps several of these individuals during their transitional stage.
- This past year, Service League was proud to assist eighteen teenagers through this program.
- Items in each of our ‘apartment kits’ include: a set of sheets, comforter, pillows, blankets, towels, bath mats, shower curtains, plates, silver ware, kitchen knives, cups, strainers, pots and pans, kitchen utensils, oven mitts, kitchen towels, and a brand new vacuum.
