About the Back-To-School Store:
Each year the Back-to-School Store prepares children for the upcoming school year. We provide the supplies necessary to learn. We provide a NEW outfit including shoes. We provide screenings, haircuts, storybooks and ice cream. Most importantly, we provide each child the opportunity to embrace the joy of a new school year.
Please join our efforts. It's as easy and important as ABC! |
A GROWING STORE MEETS BROWN COUNTY'S GROWING NEEDS. In 1993 the first Back-to-School Store, organized in response to community needs, served 200 students. While the poverty and needs within Brown County continue to expand, so do our efforts. The 17th Annual Back-to-School Store is inviting 1,600 students in grades K-5 to shop for a complete outfit, backpack, school supplies, and storybook, to receive dental and vision screenings (with follow up care necessary) and free haircut vouchers and end the day with an ice cream treat. Additionally, the Back-to-School Store is giving 1,500 backpacks filled with school supplies and grooming kits to local agencies to distribute to students in grades 6-8.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL STORE IS AN ANNUAL SERVICE LEAGUE PROJECT. In 1994 the Service League of Green Bay adopted the Back-to-School Store as its primary project. In addition to Service League's annual gift of $35,000 it is Service League Active and Associate members who work with others in the community throughout the year to make this one-day event a success
CHILDREN SUCCEED BECAUSE OUR COMMUNITY CARES. While the needs of our children are great, so is the dedication of our supporters. Local businesses, churches and organizations run school supply drives to donate much-needed products. And in 2008 more than 550 community volunteers donated their time. It is because of the generosity of our community, that more than 2,400 students entered the school year, ready to learn.
DONATIONS HELP US PROVIDE & PURCHASE SUPPLIES AND CLOTHING. In 2008 we received contributions from more than 500 individuals, businesses, foundations and grants. Those who support our project become members of the Back-to-School Store Honor Roll. Please see our 2008 Honor Roll and consider joining our 2010 Honor Roll by making a tax-deductible donation on behalf of the children of our community.
